2025 Farm Store Crew Member
Location: Edgecomb, Maine
Hours: Part-time, flexible
About Us:
Glidden Point Oysters is known for its expertly farmed, perfectly fresh oysters straight from Maine’s pristine waters. We are passionate about bringing oysters to more tables, educating consumers, and making seafood feel accessible, fun, and premium.
Located in Edgecomb, ME is our shuck-it-yourself retail location giving the community a chance to come down to the farm, chat about oysters, and learn a bit more about where their food is coming from.
Job Description:
Glidden Point is hiring for seasonal full or part-time positions for their retail store, which will begin in Mid May 2025 and run until Mid-October 2025, with Holiday/off-season hours available though our sauna/winter shop for the right candidate.
We are looking for self-motivated individuals who are excited to work in a collaborative environment. The farm store is a shuck-it-yourself/serve-it-yourself venue where people with a wide range of knowledge can enjoy the variety and flavors of the Damariscotta River. Some folks have never tried an oyster, while others may be fellow farmers.
Whoever we interact with, we strive to make them feel as comfortable as they would shucking in their own backyard.
To create this environment, we are looking for personable individuals that will build lasting impressions on the people that visit. A person who is patient with attention to detail, since the shops’ display and cleanliness will be a big part of the job. In addition, the applicant will need to possess the ability to manage a cash drawer, restock inventory, conduct tours of the property, regularly lift 30 lb bags of oysters, do dishes, maintain a clean property and workspace, recommend food and drinks, and plate food nicely. Our ideal candidate has some experience working in the retail or restaurant realm and loves (or blossoming love) for our product. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have some basic to intermediate understanding of wine and beer. We serve a variety of carefully curated beverages and, once trained, the expectation will be to effectively describe and recommend these products to customers. That being said, we don’t expect to hire an oyster or beverage expert right off the bat. Instead, we encourage people to expand their knowledge while working here. The crew on the farm is always open to questions and the customers will continually be testing your knowledge as an oyster lover.
The pay is $16/hour plus tips, which will start small in the shoulder seasons and can range from $70-$140/day during the high season (July 4th-Labor Day).
